The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any significant honors show approaches, one notices an outcry to include fresh award types to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of enthusiasts with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game was excluded that year
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
